Freddie Blay Drops Bombshell on Mahama’s Third Term Ambitions: “I Don’t Have a Problem with It

In a shocking turn of events, former NPP Chairman Freddie Blay has reignited the debate on former President John Dramani Mahama’s eligibility to run for a third term. Speaking on Oyerepa FM, Blay stated that if the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution to allow Mahama to contest the 2028 elections, he wouldn’t object.

The Controversy Unfolds

Blay’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about Mahama’s eligibility after serving one full term from 2013 to 2017 and completing the remainder of the late President John Atta Mills’ term. The NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, recently accused Mahama of planning to pack the Supreme Court with favorable judges to secure a third term.

Blay’s Take

According to Blay, the ultimate decision lies with Ghana’s electorate, not the judiciary. “The law court does not vote for a president; it’s the people of this country who will vote,” he emphasized. He added that if the NDC chooses Mahama as their candidate, it’s within their right, and the people will decide.

The Debate Rages On

Prof. H Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, disagrees with Blay’s perspective. He argues that Article 66(1) clearly states a president can’t serve more than two terms, and any interpretation allowing a third term would be “illegitimate and bogus”.

Conclusion: The NPP is in record lead for appointment of judges in this country yet they accuse everyone of using the court system of dictatorship witnessed under their past government even with the Supreme Court having to make a U-turn from their loud silence, says the presidency was wrong in removing Domelevo (Auditor General, former). Supreme Court engaged in serious crime under your watch. Let’s allow the system to reset under the laws of the republic of Ghana and not self-parochial interest.

Let’s trust his excellency John Dramani Mahama to deliver us from evil.
