From Vision to Void: Dede Ayew Abandons ICT Project in Hometown, Nania.

A once-promising dream to bridge the digital divide in Nania now lies in ruins, as a much-anticipated ICT center initiated by Black Stars captain André “Dede” Ayew has been left abandoned.

The project, which began in 2020, was aimed at establishing an ultra-modern ICT facility to serve the people of Nania and surrounding communities. It was expected to be one of the best-equipped ICT centers in northern Ghana, with provisions for restrooms, a toilet facility, and a fully stocked computer laboratory.

However, concerns over misappropriation of project funds and alleged substandard work by the contracted builder have stalled progress. Rather than the comprehensive infrastructure promised, only a single-room structure—attached to the old Nania Primary School block—was constructed, falling far short of the original plan.

According to sources, Ayew pulled out of the project after realizing the contractor had not adhered to the design and standards initially laid out. The facility, meant to sit on a newly acquired plot of land, remains uncompleted and unused.

Local residents have since expressed disappointment, noting the project’s potential impact on youth education and digital access in the area.

Despite the setback, community members remain hopeful that renewed attention can revive the initiative and fulfill its original promise.
